On Blogging…

Anyone who blogs regularly knows it can be just as time consuming as a full time job. If you’re a regular follower of my blog you know that I blog every Tuesday and Thursday. When I first started my blog I posted once a week until I got busier and started posting twice a week as I had more photos to share. Even though this year I’m taking the same number of weddings as last year I’ve become busier with emails, meetings, and other projects such as rebranding the business and organising events (which are top secret for now but stay tuned!). So as a result I’ve decided to go back to blogging once a week on Tuesdays. It’s just one step for me to help keep me on track with my busy wedding season schedule. And boy has it been a busy wedding season!

For a photographer I feel blogging is an important (and possibly the most important) way of marketing your work. So it is with regret that I can’t get the time to blog more often. But as a self employed individual it’s about finding the right balance between work and personal life. It’s very often hard to switch off from work and that’s not fair on yourself or those around you. So until I find more ways to free up work time, one blog post a week it will have to be. But I promise to make it a good blog post each week! For anyone who blogs I’d love to hear your thoughts too.

And of course I can’t write a blog post with out having a gorgeous photo to share, so here’s one from a recent wedding!

Christina, I could be writing that blog myself. It takes allot of time and effort to keep a blog up to date and can be very difficult when you're self employed and juggling all the various aspects of running a business yourself; networking, promotion, invoicing, meeting with clients, design, print, website updates, social media... and the list goes on!
I'm also looking at my own business at the moment trying to work out a balance, easier said than done, but I think when you love what you do it really helps.

Good post Christina. I'll be sorry not to see your additional posts but I'm sure that the once a week post will really make up for it. I have the very same problem which is why I started these simple "One from the edit suite" posts. Just something short and sweet to say "I'm still here!" but giving me back the time I need to edit and get my shots back to my couples.
I'm sure this is going to be a very beneficial move for you and I'm wishing you all the best with it.

Blogging is very hard indeed. I blog every Tuesday and Thursday as well, and sometimes I do struggle for time or when not busy - something to blog about. However, I know clients love reading my blog and look through images, so I feel if I don't blog - I'm letting them down in a way

If it's any consolation Christina, we're just about to start blogging our work from April! I've always believed that getting the images to the couple is the important thing - the blog comes second to that. Whether it's one post a week or ten a week - it's the quality that matters.

On blogging, i find it very hard to get posts done having 2 children at home and finding time to work too. I think it's a great idea what you are doing. I feel like I'm constantly try to catch up with the blogging. Maybe it's just better to do just one blog post a week that sort of shows what you've been up to lately with your favourite images from the week? Then leave the rest of images to be published in specialist blogs. This leaves more time to getting your photography done and makes the bloggers happy that they are getting images that haven't been out yet. What do you think?
