Reminiscing About Our Wedding in Chicago

  • As I've been making more photographer friends I've been asked more and more to share some of our own wedding photos. As photographers it's always interesting to see who we put our trust in to do the job. When Colin and I got married four years ago I wasn't a wedding photographer. Until that point I had mostly been a student and worked in a couple studios. Wedding photography was not something I even wanted to attempt, it just seemed daunting to me. I liked the security of controlling light in a studio, it felt safe. But regardless of not wanting to do weddings I (and Colin) knew the photography was extremely important to us. After a LOT of researching we found Dean of Thorsen Photography and knew his style suited us perfectly. We actually got lucky because Dean brought along Tina of Vrai Photography to second shoot our wedding. I couldn't have asked for better photographers. They were superb and we couldn't be happier with the results!

I think one thing that pushed me into considering wedding photography was our wedding photographs. Looking at them made me realise how fun and creative it can be, even more so than studio photography. Now that I'm in the wedding industry I consume myself with weddings for inspiration and sometimes look back and wish I had been a wedding photographer when we got married. There is so much more I wish we had done! Especially having a hair stylist! Girls don't ever think you can do your own hair for your wedding day. For me it was lack of preparation on finding a stylist. I went for a trial but didn't like it and didn't have time to find anyone else. My hair may look a mess but I'm still thrilled about our photos when I look at them because what shows through is how happy we were that day. I'll always be grateful to Dean and Tina.
