I've been long overdue for a Green Weddings blog post, so my apologies to all of you who are avid followers of my green posts. It can be tough trying to come up with new eco friendly ideas without repeating what I've already posted. I was actually second shooting with the great Claire Wilson of Gingerpixel Photography when I was inspired to write this blog post. The bride turned up in the cutest pair of Eco Sneaks by Simple Shoes. It got me thinking of all the different ways you can make your wedding greener with shoes. Quite often I see brides buying a new pair of runners for later in the night when they are ready to get their groove on the dance floor. This is a good opportunity to buy a pair of eco friendly shoes instead of a pair of Nike's.
A cool pair of runners for the groom and all the groomsmen add a touch of individuality and colour to the wedding. Why not give each groomsmen a pair of cool sneakers for the day that they can keep and wear again. It doubles as a nice gift! TOMS Shoes are great for grooms. They are comfortable, affordable, eco friendly, and for each pair purchased they will donate a pair to a child in need. I've also seen TOMS Shoes given to each wedding guest as a wedding favour. This might be a bit pricey but at least they'll get used and it will support a good cause. TOMS Shoes now makes wedding styles for men and women. Check out the sparkly ones for us ladies!
Other options for bride's who are not into wearing a pair of runners on their wedding day is to get a pair of second hand shoes and give them a bit of a makeover. I came across some pretty cute shoe clips on Etsy from Linden Lovebirds. As a photographer I love taking detail shots. It's always a shame when you have a stunning dress and a beautiful bouquet to photograph but disheartening when the bride has chosen to wear a pair of hand me down shoes that are dirty. I am all about recycling and encourage you to reuse shoes but consider sprucing them up a bit, and don't forget to give them a wash!Shipping to Ireland is not yet possible through the TOMS Shoes website. You can find their shoes in Schuh or on Amazon or you can source them by using Bundle Box or My US.
